Chix-chanted title line intro a sax-squawked heavy slow 103-108bpm 12in jazz-funk reggae instrumental jogger. B-side of Ray Williams’s vocal version.

TOM BROWNE: ‘Browne Sugar’ LP (Arista GRP SPART 1103)
Jazz trumpeter’s standout is the gorgeous 38bpm smooching of ‘The Closer I Get To You’ while the gently meandering 46/98bpm ‘Herbal Scent’ is more specialist and the 120bpm ‘What’s Going On’ and 117bpm ‘Throw Down’ are already on 12in.

The happily rattling and skittering 123bpm ‘Right In The Socket’ “rock” hit was originally reviewed under hurried conditions so that I missed this consistent set’s many other goodies – like the more smoothly “rocking” 125bpm ‘The Right Time For Us’, attractively jogging 113bpm ‘The Second Time Around’ and 112bpm ‘I Owe You One’, and almost ‘Shame’-like 131-130bpm ‘Girl’.
